For February, Antonio is our CFSO Athlete of the Month! Before coming to CrossFit Solid Orange, he already possessed a natural athletic background with his D1 (division one) track & field career at the University of Tennessee. However, he embraced the a new challenge of CrossFit workouts which incorporated different tests of mental and physical strength, conditioning, power and gymnastics that hadn’t been exposed to before. Needless to say, everyday he works even harder than before and we are all blown away by his success!
What is your story?
I was born in Jackson, TN but I was raised in Lithonia, GA. I moved to Nashville for a fresh start and new opportunities. I am the oldest of 3. My brother Jaden, is a senior in high school and is 17 years old. My sister, Jordyn is a sophomore in high school and she is 16 years old. I have 3 dogs. Two of them are in GA with my family. One is a Pitbull named Blu and the other is a Shih Tzu named Sarabi from the Lion King. In December I added a Dalmatian to the family named Rolly from the 101 Dalmatians!
What currently fills up all of your available time? My life is full of work and fitness. I work all day, workout at the end of the day and then I go to train a couple of my friends. I want to help them on their fitness journey.
Give everyone an idea about your journey starting CrossFit? CrossFit has always been something I wanted to try but I was a little hesitant about it. Once I moved to Nashville, I wanted to try something different and saw it as a chance to seize the opportunity. It was one of the best decisions of my life.
What do you tell people who are thinking about starting CrossFit? Give CrossFit a shot, it’s hard but what in life isn’t. You’ll push yourself to do things that you didn’t think you would ever be able to do.
What is something you have dreamed of doing for a long time? I’ve always saw myself being a professional athlete of some sort or being on a TV game show like Ninja Warrior. I still have both of those dreams. Maybe CrossFit is my chance! 😊
Share a goal for 2020 that you have! A goal for 2020 is to be mentally, physically and financially healthy.
If you could go back and give your younger self advice, what would it be? I would go back and tell my younger self. Save your money!!
Tell us something people don’t know about you? I can solve a Rubik’s cube in 70 secs or less.
How do you compare the CrossFit workouts with the type of workouts you did in the past? I have a track and field background so the workouts are surprisingly similar. We did a lot of Olympic lifts for explosion purposes, circuit training and of course running. We did cross training as well, so a lot of swimming, biking but not a lot of rowing or skiing.
What is something you like to do to relax?After a long week, I like to sit back and play Call of Duty!
Give us a suggestion for a “Question of the Day”…If you could talk to any animal, what animal would it be?
If you could visit any place in the world, where would you go? Bora Bora (French Polynesia, in the South Pacific). I’ve always seen pictures on the internet and watch videos. It looks amazing and extremely relaxing.
