The CFSO athlete spotlight for May is AA-ron Burrell! He is fiercely competitive and holds himself to the highest standard – both working out and making sure everyone at CrossFit Solid Orange feels welcome. He doesn’t know a stranger and he gives out the warmest of vibes!
What is your background?
I’m from New Orleans area originally but grew up all around the South East. Ive lived in Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Georgia.
What do you do for a living?
I work for Nashville Soccer Club and help bring families and companies out to have a great sports experience!
Tell us something people don’t know about you?
I actually grew up painting acrylic and oil portraits of people I knew and celebrities. I want to get back into painting still as it is therapeutic and fun.
What got you to give CrossFit a chance?
I noticed that I gained 50 lbs of fat in college so I wanted to start a workout program. I actually watched the CrossFit games and decided I wanted to change my physic and go back to working out hard like I did when I played soccer.
How do you compare the CrossFit workouts with the workouts you did in the past?
CrossFit workouts for me have more variation and excitement where my old work outs like “run 2 miles” or curls for the girls were just too stagnant. 💪
What was your best personal experience when you though to yourself “Wow, I’m glad I do CrossFit!”?
My best personal experience is actually when I see people for the first time in a long time and they tell me I look good. It helps me with self confidence and helps me see that I am seeing results!
What is your proudest moment at CrossFit Solid Orange?
My proudest moment of all was getting my first ring muscle up!
Who do you admire that motivates you?
I admire my Dad. He was morbidly obese and was able to lose 150lbs of his fat at the age of 50. Now he has been working out consistently for the last year and a half.
You are very disciplined why do you come so regularly?
I love the self competitive nature that CrossFit creates. You start to see results and you want to move that PR higher every time. Also the community that comes with CrossFit. Everyone is at different levels of fitness but we can help everyone push themselves!
What type of movement do you like doing, and what one do you wish you could do?
I love gymnastic movements and I wish I could get my handstand walk nailed down!
If a workout was created in your honor, what difficult movement would be in it?
Muscle ups we would have to be incorporated in the workout with some type of heavy lifting!
When you’re not CrossFitting, what do you like to do?
I like to hike, swim, kayak, and seek outdoor adventures wherever I can!
