Athlete of the Month: Amy Kight

Over one year of Athlete of Month profiles at CrossFit Solid Orange!  People ask all the time what are the benefits bestowed on the AOM? Well if you're selected, know you'll be nonplussed by the entire experience! 

 

For May, Amy Kight is our Athlete of the Month...she trains to consistently and even though she claims to be a grandmother, she more athletic than people half her age!  Let's see her make some sarcastic remark with that compliment...🤣

 

Tell us about yourself!

I was born & raised in a rural part of north Tampa Florida. I moved here from Los Angeles, the cost of living was getting way too high and home ownership was not an option. I moved to Nashville in 2014 after Sony Pictures was laying off people. I volunteered to be one of the first round of layoffs as soon as I found out... I think my bosses jaw dropped to the floor when I asked - Best way to leave a job, ever!!

 

 

Give us something people don't know about you?

I grew up in the Mormon religion, no caffeine, alcohol, swearing, etc. So yeah, I'm a hard core Mormon......😃

 

What got you to give CrossFit a chance?

I bought my house in 2017 and was a member of the UFC gym in the 'Boro' but the closest UFC gym was Hendersonville and I'm not making that drive every night. I researched what was in the area and actually looked at CrossFit Solid Orange first but the class schedule was limited so I started at another box. That box was too intense & I noticed the class schedule had changed for CFSO and decided to give it a try! I was happy I did, because it’s a great community of people to break a sweat with and has only grown since!

 

Since you're so FIT, name something you'd like to do that you haven't done before...

I'd really love to scale the Empire State building, like King Kong. Let's see what 2020 brings!

 

 

What type of movement do you like doing, and what one do you wish you could do?

Push presses are my jam, I feel most confident doing those. I think double unders are something I would like to be able to do consistently but am sure I have two left feet. 😅 Although, technically I could still do them.

 

When you're not CrossFitting, what do you like to do?

I used to spend most of my time saving the world but that got old so now I'm in a knitting club.

 

Cheesiest and most memorable warm-up we've done?

When the Coaches make us do the duck walk, I swear it's just for their amusement.

 

What do you do for a living?

I'm a financial analyst with a background in computer programming. A little on the nerdy side but proud.
